Based on a recent event in my life. Related verse: Matthew 5: 28
Knowing that guys do struggle with keeping their eyes in the right place when a temptation is there and seeing the struggle going; is an experience that makes you want to rescue them.
We were in my brother's truck going down the highway, last Saturday. I was listening to gospel music on my brother's ipod and they were playing their own tunes on either side of me.
I casually glanced out the windshield for a second and did a double-take, shocked at what I saw.
A big semi was driving directly in front of us, another on the right keeping us sandwiched there and unable to change lanes for the moment. But the wasn't what had made me look back again. It was the large-scale picture on the back.
It made me boil inside to have to sit there, unable to get that picture away from the sight of my brothers. But there it was.
This was a time, I knew, that temptation would rise and they would be tested in guarding their eyes.
Of course, the truck wouldn't change lanes for some times and I could tell that my older brother was growing fidgety and uneasy the whole time. He had to keep his eyes on the road, but that meant he'd have that temptation of glancing in front of him at that truck. If only I could have gotten ahold of that wicked picture and just ripped it up.
Finally, after what seemed an age of time, the right lane opened and the semi began to move over. My older brother stepped on the gas and we began to slowly pass it up.
I began to let out the breath I had been holding in when I realized we were no longer passing the semi, but instead it was starting to gain speed on us so that we were driving side by side.
My other brother who had been engrossed in his ipad this whole time, glanced up at the semi driving right beside us. I watched his eyes stop for a moment then look around, before going back to his ipad. I bit my lip, hoping that he wouldn't look up again.
My older brother took the move and floored the gas. We flew past the semi-truck and that picture I wanted so badly to tear up.
I think we were all equally relieve to be past it.
The temptation was gone now, but were the minds of my brothers still dwelling on it...or were they blocking the image?
Feeling helpless to save them from that time of temptation made me think more about the responsibility we girls and women have. By how we show ourselves around men, we are causing either pure or evil thoughts. Sure, they are responsible for what they do or how they think when they are tempted, but it is up to us to make it easier on them. We have that influence and we should use it for good.
Men are led by their eyes. Women are led my their emotions.
Modesty is important and influential in the lives of both women and men, girls and guys.
Don't tempt someone by how you dress or flaunt yourself in public. Show a Christian attitude and character, always.
Be smart.
